A Niche for the Niche-less

Defining your writing when you write lots of things

I’ve written before that I don’t have a niche. I write what I feel like, when I feel like. However, the more I write the more I realise that it’s not so much that I don’t want to have a niche but more not wanting to define it upfront. Instead I wanted my niche to define itself.

This really hit home recently as I was putting together my website. I wanted to share a few of my articles on there, and narrowing that choice down a small handful was enlightening.

So if, like me, you struggle to define yourself as a writer, here’s a few things that might clue you into what your niche is.

Some articles come easier

Sometimes the words flow right form your brain to the screen without you even noticing your fingers on the keyboard. Sometimes you’re excited to write and can’t get a concept out of your head. Those things are definitely part of your niche.

What the world likes

However, even if you like writing into the void, I believe your niche should also be something that garners a good response from your readers. What defines “good” is up to you, but if every time you write about cats you get a hundred comments yet you only get one when you…
