Tips and tricks from someone who wants out of the kitchen

I’m trying to get healthier, again. Trying to drop a few dress sizes so I can fit back into my favourite t-shirts and the tartan miniskirts that have languished unworn for too many years. Trying to get to a point where my arms are strong and my lungs don’t hate me for walking up a hill. It’s tough. It’s tough every time I try, so this time I’m doing something a little different. I’m embracing the fact that I am, at heart, a lazy cook.

I exercise a decent amount these days, ever since I joined a cosplay dance group at the end of last year. High energy idol dances in the afternoon and yoga in the morning mean that I hit the recommended half hour of exercise most days. But it’s the diet that matters most, and the diet I struggled with, until I realised that it really didn’t have to be hard. I didn’t have to turn into someone who loves cooking, or who uses quinoa and chia seeds and weird varieties of lettuce. I can be me and eat healthy at the same time.

This practically goes without saying, but I want to mention it anyway — this is not diet advice! This is how I eat relatively healthily, getting a good mix of fruits and vegetables without too many carbs or loads of fat, without having to spend much time each day cooking.
